Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) occurs when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist within the carpal tunnel — a narrow passageway formed by bones and ligaments. It is the most common peripheral nerve compression disorder, causing pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and fingers.

Symptoms

• Numbness and tingling in the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers
• Weakness of grip and pinch strength
• Pain that wakes patients at night
• Difficulty with fine motor tasks (buttoning, typing)
• Thenar muscle wasting in advanced cases

Treatment Options

Mild cases may respond to non-surgical treatment including splinting, steroid injections, and nerve gliding exercises. Moderate to severe cases benefit from surgical carpal tunnel release — available as open and endoscopic (minimally invasive) procedures.
